A must read for all Christians.

I consider Terry Law to be a pioneer of contemporary Christian worship. His book, The Power of Praise and Worship, was written almost 15 years ago, yet it captures the essence of praise and worship for today's Church (the Body of Christ, or all believers). At first reading, I was surprised to find very little mention of music in the book's early chapters. I soon realized, however, that Mr. Law was laying a solid foundation for his beliefs about the power of praise and worship. In fact, he lays a solid foundation for the Christian faith. In this book, he sheds new light on the use of praise and worship as a tool to receive God's blessings and to win victory over the flesh and all forms of evil. Venturing into the arena of spiritual warfare, Mr. Law wields the power of three key weapons: The Word, The Name, and The Blood. He explains the power and authority that all Christians possess through The Word (Scripture), The Name of Jesus (God), and His Blood (Jesus'). Incorporating these spiritual weapons in the Church's praise and worship is essential. Mr. Law brings this truth to life in the latter chapters of this book, explaining that the power is in the weapons and that praise is the launching rocket! Although these truths were not new to me - and they probably aren't new to many Christians - my spirit was refreshed by the reminder. Your's will be, too.
The Power of Praise and Worship is a must read for the person who desires to have victory, prosperity, and joy in this life. The book is written in plain English and is, therefore, easy to read. I have never been an avid reader, but I could not put this book down. I am telling my family and friends about it...and now I want to share it with you.

This book was used by God to show me how very much He desires for us to enter in His Presence. I was changed and transformed into a person of sincere worship. God longs for a personal relationship with His children, this book covers miracle working power through praise in as much as renewal through worship. If you are the one who desires to see God face to face, run don`t walk to your local Christian book store for this treasure.

This is an excellent book about praise and worship

I thoroughly enjoyed Terry Law's book on "The Power of Praise and Worship." This book speaks volumes to the individual who desires a closer walk with the Lord, and who longs to enter into his gates with joy and thanksgiving.
I believe that we should definitely be in a state of praise and worship at all times even if we are praising God inside ourselves and conducting our own church service within our hearts. Terrry Law digs a bit deeper by demonstrating some biblical examples in which praise and worship made all of the difference.
I highly recommend this book to any Christian who seeks to build upon his or her prayer life and who desire a more intimacy with the Lord in terms of feeling his presence and love all around. Though some of us may feel that the feeling of security and holiness is something that can only be felt in a church . . . I can assure you that once you are in the privacy of your own home with your arms stretched up and just thanking God for just another day. The power of praise will flow like a river all of the that our Father has done for us. This book is an excellent way to understand just how praise and worship can ACTUALLY LIFT up the spirit of heaviness, depression, and self-pity.
This book is a must read. I highly recommend this book along with Franklin Hall's "The Fasting Prayer." If you really want to feel God's presence go on a selected fast and prayer experience in which you mix fasting, prayer, and praise. The heavens will open and God will show you what to do and how to do it. Read this book it has some interesting points!

About the Author

SALLY MITCHELL is Professor Emerita of English and Women's Studies at Temple University. She has published extensively on Great Britain, the Victorian era, and women's issues, including Victorian Britain: An Encyclopedia (1988), which was named an ALA Outstanding Reference Work. Her most recent work, Frances Power Cobbe: Victorian Feminist, Journalist, Reformer, was published in 2004.

Beautifully Done

I have made a very thorough (though amateur) study of the Victorian period, and as such, I have read many reference texts, but I often come back to Dr. Mitchell's book for fun and for its completeness. The way she easily sums up concepts and creates a real picture is engaging and informative. This book is especially good for first timers, but she doesn't stick exclusively to explaining novels, the way some do. Above all, there is a real expression of the hardship of the forgotten working class; their perilous but proud existance, their very "cheap" lives, their "go it alone" attitude. This population made up 3/4th of the country and is antithetical to the nobles and squires often celebrated in Victorian novels. I highly recommend this book.

Broad, but not deep.

This is an excellent general reference for the workings of life in Victorian England. However, because the subject matter is so broad, the text inevitably can not offer significant depth in any one area. As a general reference for Victorian England, it servers its purpose well, and can give the casual reader or even professional historian an overview of almost any subject. However, for those seeking to fully understand one of the topic areas in greater detail, this book doesn't measure up.

A great book for English teachers!

I'm very pleased with the purchase! The book is wonderfully organised, it has clear explanations for every practice unit and a number of practical exercises. I appreciate that all phrasal verbs are grouped in units, which definitely contributes to better memorising and mastering the verbs. What I like the most and actually was looking for is illustrations and exercises of a practical use of phrasal verbs rather than just their explanations.

I would say this book is ideal for anyone who knows some Machine Learning basics and has experience with Python, but it's also a great book for beginners who want to learn about practical ML problems. I've taken Andrew Ng’s Stanford Machine Learning courses in the past, and converting the theories into code isn't always intuitive. However, this book teaches you how to implement those algorithms into code, with lots of practical problems and easy-to-understand example code. Also, the additional graphs and images helped me visualize the concepts. Highly recommended!

Great, but not perfect.

This is an extremely information-dense book; as a survey of literary criticism, it's all you could ask for. From Marxism to Feminism to Deconstruction, each literary theory is explained quite thoroughly, and its key theorists are introduced. And for good measure, the author throws a little humor in here and there (which is nice; it breaks up the monotony a bit).

Really, my only complaint with the book is that as an INTRODUCTION to literature, it's hard to jump into. The author doesn't go to a lot of trouble to thoroughly define some of the terminology. I found myself doing a lot of re-reading.

While I did like this book and would definitely give it a good rating, my recommendation is to have a literary glossary, such as the Bedford Glossary of Literary Terms, handy when tackling it; otherwise, you might find yourself overwhelmed with barely-explained terms and, like me, get stuck in the re-reading loop.

Recommended for its Clarity and Quality

This book is an informative survey in critical theory. It's incredibly accessible, but if you want to dig deeper into the concepts, there's plenty of material there. If you're an programmer considering taking an English course, know that this book is to criticism as K&R is to C. It's that good. :) I'll be using is as a desktop reference for all future work in English.

Way above the competition

This is by far the best introduction to literary theory for college students. Very clear and accessible, with lots of good examples. Highly recommended for any English student thinking about Grad school or who just wants to be knowledgeable for upper level classes. Of course it needs to be supplemented by primary theoretical texts by the leading theorists, but this book is really the best starting place available, and even students who already have some knowledge will benefit from the clear and detailed analyses of the major theories and theorists. As an English professor, I used to assign Literary Theory: The Basics by Hans Bertens (still a useful text, especially for its historical narrative of theory in English studies), but I now find this text by Parker to be far superior.
