I generally like the case review series

I generally like the case review series. The text, questions and answers of his book are good and very instructive.However, the images are too small and it is difficult and often impossible to assess the pathologies that renders this books fas less useful as compared other books of the series. Given the insufficient imaging material you can use the book as a review for the exam but it is less useful for studying purposes

I bought the book to prepare for the ABR oral exam and I passed. I am a foreign trained radiologists working as a Faculty. I have not seen a mammogram in 10 years. I read this book in preparation for the exam and was enough to get through it. That gives a 5 star review to this book.

Better than some other books in this series. Good images. Fairly up to date, though not yet taking full advantage of the latest BI-RADS revision (which wasn't out at the time of publication, but was no doubt being discussed among academic experts at the time.) Most of the images are pretty good.

One of the frustrations of some of the books in this series is the quiz format. Each topic begins with an image and offered differential. In this particular book, several answers are often considered correct (that is, the question asked is: What should be included in the differential?) The answers provided are often contestable, yet typically no effort is made to explain why the offered answer is correct. So you have to hope (if your goal is answering the quiz correctly in preparing for the MOC or Boards) that your notion of a reasonable differential is similar to the authors.

This late 12th-century Arthurian romance in Old French verse is a masterpiece on the conflict between romantic love and knightly dutyand unlike Chretien's Lancelot and Perceval poems, one that he completed. It is an excellent introduction to the poet and to his aesthetic and moral sensibilities. Raffel, poet and professor of English, smoothly translates the octosyllabic rhymed verse into triple stressed unrhymed modern verse, though Ruth Harwood Cline (Univ. of Georgia Pr., 1975) follows the original's verse structure more closely. Both preserve the fast pace and tone. Highly recommended for academic and public libraries without the Cline translation and for large libraries wanting two translations.Carolyn M. Now, for the first time, and experienced translator of medieval verse who is himself a poet provides a translation of Chretien's major poem, Yvain, in verse that fully and satisfyingly captures the movement, the sense, and the spirit of the Old French original.

Dynamic, Raw, Compelling

Yvain, The Knight of the Lion, is a 12th Century Arthurian romance from Chretien de Troyes, who is the man most responsible for launching the medieval genre of Chivalric Romance, particularly centering on King Arthur's court.

The text which I read, translated into English verse by Burton Raffel, was just phenomenal. It's very rapid fire, dynamic, high impact text. The story and the style of its presentation have an intense, raw energy. The transformation of Yvain is very effective as well. He basically passes from a character driven by pride, to one who has learned self-sacrifice and compassion, and he literally reinvents himself as a new man after a period of disgrace and madness.

The violence of the story is quite brutal, and explicitly described. True, it has its share of classic nobility and poetically beautiful violence such as the "showers of sparks" from helmets and the shields chopped into slivers, which reappear in the works of other authors who followed him, as Wolfram von Eschenbach in his Parzival (based on another of Chretien's books). But it also has its share of simple heartless cruelty:

"The chase was long, and hard,
Until the hunted grew weary,
And the hunters cut them to pieces,
And cut the guts from their horses,
And the living rolled on the dead,
Stabbing at each other, and killing.
The slaughter was ghastly, was murderous."

In any event, I found it a compelling read. It's also a remarkably easy read; there's nothing dense or ponderous about it. Anyone who hasn't yet tried reading medieval literature, or Arthurian romance, would do themselves a great favor by giving this book a try.

novel romances beat romance novels

When I started this book, an assignment for a college class, I did not anticipate any difficulties putting it down. I expected awkward style and one-dimensional, if archetypal, characters. Instead, I found the opposite. Raffel's translation does an excellent job of highlighting the simple beauty of Chretien's poem, and the characters are interesting and human. And, perhaps most importantly, with a slight suspension of disbelief, Yvain is an entertaining tale of adventure.

This translation of the Medieval romance of Yvain by Chretien De Troyes is one of the most enjoyable medieval romances I've ever read. While many romances are actually thinly disguised moralistic alegory, this tale reads out like an adventure story, and easily grabs the reader's attention. It is a wonderful example how something that was written over 800 years ago can still be enjoyable today, and how, while the world around us changes, great storytelling remains great storytelling.

About the Author

Saundra K Ciccarelli is a Professor of Psychology at Gulf Coast State College in Panama City, Florida. She received her Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology from George Peabody College of Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tennessee. She is a member of the American Psychological Association and the Association for Psychological Science. Originally interested in a career as a researcher in the development of language and intelligence in developmentally delayed children and adolescents, Dr. Ciccarelli had publications in the American Journal of Mental Deficiency while still at Peabody. However, she discovered a love of teaching early on in her career. This led her to the position at Gulf Coast State College, where she has been teaching Introductory Psychology and Human Development for over 30 years. Her students love her enthusiasm for the field of psychology and the many anecdotes and examples she uses to bring psychology to life for them. Before writing this text, Dr. Ciccarelli authored numerous ancillary materials for several introductory psychology and human development texts.�

J Noland White is an Associate Professor of Psychology at Georgia College, Georgia’s Public Liberal Arts University, located in Milledgeville. He received both his B.S. and M.S. in Psychology from Georgia College and joined the faculty in 2001 after receiving his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Tennessee. As a licensed psychologist, Dr. White has worked as a consultant in a variety of settings, including adult mental health, developmental disabilities, and juvenile justice. Back on campus, he operates an active lab and with his students is currently investigating the psychophysiological characteristics and neuropsychological performance of adults with and without ADHD. Outside of the lab, Dr. White is engaged in collaborative research examining the effectiveness of incorporating technology in and out of the college classroom to facilitate student learning. He also serves as a mentor for other faculty wanting to expand their use of technology with their classes. In 2008, he was a recipient of the Georgia College Excellence in Teaching Award.

A book so good it may even be great. A scholastic achievement of epic scope and untold scale. Wow... just wow.

So very full of words and punctuation and believe me there are periods and commas everywhere but most paragraphs start with a weird dent in them. They broke the piggy bank on page numbers, each is different.The pictures use color but none of them are scratch and sniff. I don't mean to spoil the end but it turns out that "it's your parents fault". I wish I could have filled the night sky with all the stars I would like to give this book, five seems so inappropriate.

so a great quick read

This first thing I have to tell you about this book, is that it is not a full length novel. It is only the first part of a series of short stories. This story is about 71 pages long, so a great quick read, but does leave you hanging.

The idea of this story is you have a cute young lady named Jennifer, who is busting her butt working in a lingery store, and ear lying her degree in fashion design. Her goal is to one day be a designer of beautiful women's undergarments. She meets a beautiful man named Jack Montgomery. He was a customer at the shop she worked at and he left his credit card behind. Jennifer is asked to bring it to him. She soon realizes this man is a sexy hot billionaire who wants to show her how sexual she can be and really push her limits.

The characters ar developed really well. And the heat is evident between the to character. The only problem with this book, is its so much like all these others ut on the market. Boy meets girl, boy wants to dominate girl, girl does what guy wants. Pretty much a Pretty Women Movie reference. It wasn't a bad story, but it wasn't very remembrance either.

There is explosive chemistry between Jack Nad Jennifer from the very beginning...
Jennifer, on the cust of a break-up with her noncaring boyfriend has an errand to run for her overbearing boss that takes her and talent for granted...... The last thing in her mind was meeting the ever so handsome enigmatic Jack Montgomery...
Jack, handsome, rich and Definitely a man who loves control didn't expect the beautiful Miss Dailey when expecting his credit card to be returned. He also didn't forsee the chemistry that burns between them.
What starts out to be an evening getting to know one another better tuens out to be so much more, but can Jennifer handle Jack's need to dominate? Will Jack be able to quench his thirst for domination with a woman who isn't interested in the lifestyle?

For her debut book, I have to say that this was an awesome book. I did how ever find one mistake but that is all. The story line is awesome and the characters had an attractions that they could not resist. For me that is what makes for a good book.
